I teach elemental style yoga, connecting the elements of earth, water, fire, air and space with traditional hatha yoga practices. Group classes are tailored to the students I am working with. It allows a safe and supportive environment for people to connect with their own bodies, minds and souls and to learn how to relax.
A class may start with a settling in exercise, some self care then gentle stretching of the body with the breath, leading to asana (posture and movement) practice, breathing awareness and breathing control (pranayama), meditation or mantra chant and end with a relaxation. I sometimes use aromatherapy and reflexology in class for self care and to aid relaxation as well as Tibetan singing bowls and gong for their beautiful healing sounds.
I have been practicing yoga since my early 20's originally coming to a class out of curiosity and have found it to have so many more benefits for health and well being than I could have imagined!
I have been teaching since 2013, my first classes being small groups or individuals in my home, then leading yoga sessions at festivals and running my own community classes.
I have undertaken training with the British Wheel of yoga, Yoni Shakti Yoga and Teen yoga foundation and have taken many CPD training days and courses relevant to yoga, including ones in teaching Pranayama and Hypnotherapy skills for Yoga teachers.
I am delighted to say I have now completed training in pregnancy yoga with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and team....If you would like pregnancy yoga classes or individual sessions please get in touch.
I have found that people come to yoga for all sorts of reasons, but some of the benefits of a regular practice are;
improved strength and fitness in body and mind, increased flexibility, growing sense of vitality and wellbeing, easing of bodily aches and pains, relief from stress and stress related conditions, improved mental health, increased sense of peace, calmness and positivity, a deeper connection with ourselves and with the world around us, increased self awareness and mindfulness, valuable time out from our hectic lives to relax and just be.... and many more.
I believe yoga can be for everyone regardless of age, gender, sexuality, race, religion or belief, ability or background. All people are welcome in my classes.
